The Kerala Women’s Commission would hold an inquiry into the forced relocation of the family members of a seven-year-old girl, who was raped and killed by a relative at Anchal near Kollam last week.

The Commission claimed it would ensure safety of the family members, especially women and address their grievances. It would also talk to the police and other people in Anchal the reasons behind the victim’s mother and other relatives leaving the village.

The girl, a class two student of Government Primary School in Eroor, went missing since Wednesday. Her mother filed a complaint with the police, after she did not return from school.

Police who verified the CCTV footage from Eroor junction, found the girl with one of their relatives Rajesh, whom police picked up for questioning. During interrogation, Rajesh confessed that he raped and killed the girl before dumping the body.

It is alleged that the girl was raped on an earlier occasion too, but her family members did not speak about it. Their neighbours accused them of immoral behaviour. It is also alleged that police were forced to shift the girl’s mother and other women members of the family to another place after the neighbours held them responsible for the girl’s death.

The girl’s body was buried in her father’s house.The Commission would mainly probe into reasons behind the villagers denying permission to conduct the last rites at her mother’s house.
