Nearly 25,000 lorries will remain off the roads in Coimbatore in support of the indefinite strike called by All India Motor Transport Congress starting on October 1, demanding the abolishing of toll systems all over the country.

“While the lorry owners stand to lose revenue of Rs.1.5 crores each day, the government will also lose the same amount in revenue,” Kaliaperumal, President of the Coimbatore District Lorry Owners Association told the media.

Business will suffer the most, with likely losses pegged at Rs.100 crores everyday. Transportation of essential commodities, vegetables, and perishable goods will be badly hit, he said.
