Speed limits fixed for motorists in Nilgiris

The Nilgiris District Road Safety Panel has fixed speed limits for motorists across the district. Accordingly, the speed should not exceed 35km per hour on the national and state highways. Motorists taking the Kalhatti Ghat Road stretch from Thalaikunda to Masinagudi should not exceed 20 km an hour, those taking the district roads. A speed limit of 30km an hour has been set for district roads, while those withing the municipality limits of Ooty, Coonoor and Gudalur have been restricted to travelling at a speed of 20km only.

Severe action will be taken against defaulters, who will be zeroed in on with the help of high-tech CCTV cameras placed at important junctions, the administration said in a press release.
