Heavy rains continued to lash Nilgiris for the second day on Friday resulting in uprooting of a number of trees.

The rains, accompanied by strong winds, disrupted normal life. A huge tree was uprooted and fell on a housing complex near the Superintendent of Police office in Ooty. Another giant tree uprooted and fell on an electric post on the Ooty-Lovedale Road. Traffic was disrupted on the road for a long time.

Fire service personnel rushed to to spot and removed the tree. Power supply has been suspended in most part of the district, adding to the people’s woes.

Several parts of Udhagamandalam were inundated with water, especially the low-lying areas surrounding the Ooty Race Course and Charring Cross. While Coonoor received 118mm rains, Kinnakorai 96mm, Kunda Bridge 68mm and Ooty received 57.4mm rainfall, Overall, the district received 734.90mm rain in the last two days.
