Cyclone toll in Kerala at 12

Kottayam: The toll in Ockhi cyclone reached 12 in Kerala and 126 people were reported missing.

Five persons died on Saturday and the Indian Navy recovered three bodies from the sea while one person died when an electric post fell on him at Kannur and the fifth person died in Kochi after falling into water. Of the missing cases, 120 were from Kasargod, five from Alappuzha and one from Kasargod.

They had ventured to sea without knowing about impending cyclone.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said a relief of Rs 10 lakh would be paid to the kin of cyclone victims.

Those from fishermen community would get more relief. The final relief would be based on the report of fisheries department, Vijayan told reporters at Thiruvananthapuram.

The cyclone had inflicted a loss of Rs 7.5 crore of which the maximum was in Idukki (Rs 4 crore), while the state capital suffered a loss of Rs 2.5 crore. Of the 400 people rescued, 138 were from Lakshadweep.
