CITU to hold massive demo on Dec 13 demanding monetary benefits

The CITU, along with unorganised workers in various sectors, have decided to hold a massive demonstration in the city on December 13 to protest against the State Government for its failure to announce the monetary benefits, which were pending the last 10 months, to them.
The workers assembled at the venue of MGR Centenary celebrations held here on December 3 in the hope of Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami announcing Rs. 4 crore worth benefits. However, they were disappointed when there was no such announcement, as promised by the district administration, which proved to be false, as the workers had decided to stage black flag demonstrations against the Chief Minister, CITU Treasurer S. Krishnamoorthy said in a statement on Friday.
“The Government has kept pending the benefits such as pension, compensation for accidental death, funeral expenses for natural death and educational assistance for the members of Welfare Board, amounting to Rs. 4 crore for nearly 10,000 applicants. Though the district collector has assured that an announcement was likely to come on that day, the Chief Minister, who announced crores
worth schemes and projects, failed to announce this pending benefits, resulting in utter disappointment to the workers,” he said.
In order to condemn the attitude of the Government, the workers have decided to stage a demonstration on December 13, Krishnamoortny said.
