All police stations in Tamil Nadu now have Child Welfare officers. The TN police authorities on Wednesday posted 1498 child welfare officers in the rank of sub-inspectors in all police stations in the state.

With a view to sensitize the police personnel for better effective implementation of juvenile justice system, the police headquarters held a state-wide capacity building training programme, which will eventually be held at 13 locations by the training branch of the Tamil Nadu police.

The one day training programme has been devised with the help of eminent psychologists and senior police officials in coordination with UNICEF and Lyola college’ department of social work.

Today’s training programme was inaugurated by the Justice T Manikumar, chairperson, Juvenile Justice Committee of the Madras High Court.

Director General police, TK Rajendran addressed the gathering among whom was Chennai police commission AK Viswanathan and other senior police officials. All the 161 child welfare officers in Chennai city were also present.
