A 23-year old youth, arrested in connection with selling pirated DVDs of new Tamil films here, was detained under Goondas Act on Tuesday.

Sekhar of Perur in the city was arrested while supplying DVDs of new films such as Mersal, Dheeran and Kodiveeran and also pornographic film by the sleuths of Intellectual Property Right Enforcement Cell on December 23 and lodged in the Central jail here.

More than 1,700 DVDs, including 50 pornographic films and a DVD re-writer machine were recovered from his shop.

Considering that his remaining outside will result in heavy loss to the film producers, distributors and theatre owners and also affecting the character of younger generation, the City Police Commissioner ordered his detention under the Goondas Act.
