Over the last one year, a class 9 student was allegedly sodomised repeatedly by five senior students of a government school in Uttam Nagar inside the school premises.

After the family of the victim protested, three of the accused were suspended, while an inquiry has been initiated against the other two.

On Monday, when the boy refused to go to school insisting that his teacher had asked him to stay at home for 15 days, the family probed him that led to a narration of his ordeal over the past year.

“The boy told his parents that when he was in Class 8, a group of five senior students approached him, threatened him at knifepoint and assaulted him. Since then, these students used to call him to the washroom and repeat the act,” an investigating official said.

Last week, one of the teachers caught these students redhanded. The teacher, however, reportedly let them off and asked the victim to take a break for 15 days.

On Monday, after learning about the incident, the boy’s parents called police and Child Helpline to register a complaint.

When the school was contacted by the parents, authorities promised to take immediate action. While the school administration suspended three of the accused, an initial investigation has also been ordered into the matter and the role of the other two students is being probed.

The victim was counseled after medical examination confirmed sexual assault.
