Court hands out death sentence to rapist of child, who killed the child and murdered own mother too

Chennai : A Chennai trial court on Monday awarded death sentence to rapist of a six-year old girl, P Daswant, who also murdered Hasini and his own mother afterwards.

Special judge P Velumurgan of Mahil Court, Chengalpet, pronounced the death sentence and also awarded a jail term of 46 years on separate counts, ensuring that he will never walk out of the prison alive.

All yes in TN were focused on the judgment today in the case of rape and double murder that shook the state when it took place last year. While the rape and murder of Hasini took place in February last year. Later, after he came out on bail, he also killed his own mother in December last year and escaped to Mumbai.

And within less than three months, the fast track court came out with the verdict against the murderer and rapist, who had accepted his crime.

On February 16 last year, Daswant raped the child, then suffocated her to death. He then stuffed her body in a bag, took it to a desolated place on highway and burnt it. It was after few days that he was picked up by police in connection with the girl’s murder. In September he secured bail after the police failed to file the chargesheet within the stipulated time of 90 days.

The rapist lured the girl into his flat, located at Mangadu near Porur on the outskirts of Chennai.

Convicting him and sentencing him to death, Chengalpet trial court handed him a sentence of 46 years in jail on various counts.

“It is death by hanging, “ pronounced Special judge of Mahila Court, Chengalpet, P Velumurgan. It was welcomed by slogan shouting people outside the court.

The court examined 30 witnesses, 45 documents and 19 pieces of evidence.

After his release on bail, he was living with his parents. But within three months of his release, the body of his own mother S Sarla was found in a pool of blood on December 2. He allegedly killed her and fled to Mumbai from where he was arrested on December 6.

On hearing the judgment, Rajesh Babu, father of the child, said that he was satisfied with the judgment. I had wanted nothing less than death for the monster. He was not a man, he was a monster.”

“When I started, I was advised against as courts take a long time. But I am happy it was over quickly and the judgment is good. I wanted nothing less than death for the monster,” he told media persons after the judgment.
