A woman was found dead on the railway track near Podanur today, reportedly after falling from the train last night. The victim, Sumati, was a passenger of the West Coast Express train.

Sumati and her husband Jayashankar were travelling from Chennai to Palakkad by the West Coast Express last night. After dinner, both had gone to wash their hands near the
toilet. The train was near Coimbatore Station then. Jayashankar washed his hands first and returned to his seat. Even after a long time, when his wife didn’t return to the seat, he started looking for her.

By then, the train had reached Palakkad and Jayashankar lodged a complaint with Railway Police, who informed the officials at Podanur and Coimbatore. During the search, the Podanur police found the body on the track near the station, and rushed it to the Coimbatore Government Hospital for post mortem. The body was then handed over to the family.
