KOTTAYAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Local Self Government Tribunal on Tuesday rejected the plea of actor Jayasurya to stay the Kochi Corporation’s order to demolish the boat jetty built on the backwater area which he had allegedly encroached on.

The Vigilance Department had already registered an FIR against the actor for violating the Coastal Regulation Act by filling the wetland at Chilavanoor lake at Kochukadavanthara in Kochi.
A scientific study conducted had confirmed the charges against the actor.

The study was conducted as per the direction of the vigilance court in Muvattupuzha where a native had filed a case against the actor.Based on a complaint by the native, who is also an activist, the Thrissur Vigilance Court had ordered a probe into the alleged land encroachment.

In his petition, the activist said Jayasurya had built a private boat jetty, 3000 sqft house with compound walls by encroaching Chilavanoor Lake. He had also flouted building rules and coastal zone regulation rules to build the house and boat jetty.

The Taluk surveyor had found that he had encroached 3 cent 700 square links of backwater area. Following this, the Kochi Corporation on February 28, 2014 ordered the demolition of the illegal construction within 14 days at the actor’s own expense.

Jayasurya is the third accused in the case, while the former Kochi Corporation Secretary and Building Inspector are the first and second accused respectively.
