The CPI-M conducted a protest march on Monday condemning the district administration for not retrieving a thoroughfare from the occupation of private individuals, despite the court order.

A portion of the Sanganoor-Maniyakaranpalayam road in Coimbatore was occupied by some individuals. The CPI-M and residents of the area have been petitioning the District Collector and the Corporation authorities for a long time, to retrieve the road for public use, but the issue had been dragging for many years. The court issued a verdict declaring the property as belonging to the public, and ordered that the individuals occupying it vacate the portion immediately. The earlier stay was also revoked.

Despite this, the authorities have not taken any step to retrieve the land until now.

The CPI-M’s Coimbatore North City Committee, under the leadership of Unit Secretary N.R. Murugesan, organized the protest march, which was inaugurated by State Committee Member P.R. Natarajan. District Secretary V. Ramamoorthy and U.K. Vellingiri, ex-MLA, addressed the gathering. More than 100 party members, including District Executive member Amutha and North City Committee members, participated in the rally and distributed pamphlets to the public.
