Two-day fruit show begins in Coonoor

Coimbatore : An elephant and calf made of 1 tonne of grapes and 9ft tall is the cynosure of the eyes at the fruit show which began today at Sim’s Park in Coonoor in the Nilgiris.

The State horticulture department is organising this annual summer festival, when a large number of tourists visit the district. Shows spices, vegetables, roses and flower are being held as part of the festival.

The two-day 60th edition of the show marks the conclusion of the festival. The department has created replicas of animals and birds and big using fruits. Another major attraction is the rangoli made of 500 kg of plum and peach among fruits. Horticulture departments from 11 districts in and a few private organisations are participating in the show.
