KOCHI: With young Congress leaders in Kerala raising a banner of revolt against any move to give one more term to Rajya Sabha member P.J. Kurien (who is also the Deputy Chairman of the Upper House), the scene has now shifted to New Delhi, where young and senior leaders will have discussion with the party high command on the issue.

Newly-appointed AICC General Secretary Oommen Chandy, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, KPCC President M.M. Hassan will hold talks with CWC member A.K. Antony and Mukul Wasnik, who is in-charge of Kerala. The leaders will later meet the party President, Rahul Gandhi, and brief him on the deliberations.

Meanwhile, Congress MPs from the State held a meeting on Tuesday.

The revolt against Kurien, who will complete his third term in the Rajya Sabha, comes close on the heels of a severe drubbing the Congress faced in the recent by-election for Chengannur Assembly constituency. This issue has taken a serious turn with some of the leaders taking it to social media, instead of raising it with the high command. Youngsters feel that the high command should consider youth and other leaders, who haven’t got an opportunity in parliamentary politics, for the Upper House.
