Members of the All Indian Central Councils Trade Union (AICCTU) have said that they would stage a one day strike on November 2 as announced earlier here on Monday.

According to the members, the announcement had come after the Coimbatore Corporation had not replied to their queries that they raised on October 16 through a protest. R. Damodharan, one of the members, said that they had demanded the Corporation officials to give 20 per cent bonus before Diwali for workers who are working on contract basis.

“We had also asked for Rs. 20,000 or equal salary to all the workers; ESI and PF amount to be distributed to the workers; fill job vacancies in the District and make permanent as many as 15,000 staff,” he said.

He also added that they had asked the Corporation to stop humans from cleaning sewage and deploy them in other government jobs other than sewage cleaning.

“Three sets of uniform should be given to the workers and also free medical camps should be conducted for the workers,” he said.

The members also alleged that the Corporation had not submitted any report after the previous discussions with them and added that the one day strike would go as planned.
