Women and jewellery are inseparable. This season giving the girls and women an opportunity to experiment with glittering silver is Shalaka Vora with her brand of silver jewellery collection that includes a range of toe rings, CBZ earrings, pendant sets, bracelets and silver chains.

“Not everyone can afford to purchase the yellow metal these days. I have created my own line of jewellery called Jalokivia that is crafted from silver. All my jewellery is 92.5% pure and it is certified,” Shalaka says.

It has been a year and half that Shalaka started selling silver jewellery from her home. She started with just 35 pieces of silver toe rings. Her handful of initial customers became her regular customers and her loyal customers spread the word about the quality of her jewellery. This has prompted this home maker to set up a store that sells exclusive handcrafted jewellery.

Shalaka has a team of craftsmen who work for her and they are based out of Jaipur, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Udaipur and Delhi. “No two pieces of my jewellery are the same. Even if a customer likes a piece and they request me to replicate it, I do not do so. Instead I offer suggestions and innovate upon the design based on their preference.” Shalaka says.

Mother of a young child, Shalaka gives full credit to her husband for being able to manage the work-home balance. She tells us that it was her husband who motivated her to set up a store and do business. “I am born and brought up in Mumbai. My mother makes and sells jewellery. I grew up in a family of entrepreneurs. However, it is my husband who motivated, encouraged and guided me in all aspects of doing business.” Shalaka says.

Shalaka has a variety of jewellery to match every woman’s dream. She has pieces ranging from light weight jewellery to heavy sets. Ask her what her business secret is and in a jiffy comes the answer “The building where I have opened my store is family owned. I try and keep the expense to run this business, minimum. Whatever money that I earn out of sales is donated to Seva Nilayam home that is located in Thondamuthur. My customers are happy with the jewellery and they smile wearing it. I am happy to donate the proceeds of my sales to the Seva Nilayam Thondamuthur home. The smile that it brings on the inmates face makes my heart smile with joy. It motivates me to do more business and give more” Shalaka says.

Jalokivia store is located on Periyaswamy Road West R S Puram. Shalaka can be reached on 98430-15298
