Coimbatore : City-based Women’s Centre by Motherhood (WCM) on Friday announced a unique education series on maternal fetal medicine aimed at educating women on improving maternal fetal health.

The maternal fetal medicine specialised in the care of high-risk pregnancy that involved prevention, diagnosis and treatment of certain conditions that could develop during pregnancy, WCM clinical director Dr Mrudubhashini Govindarajan told reporters here.

The need of the hour was seamless care to handle high risk pregnancy, critical care during delivery, medical complications in the mother, growth related to fetus and sick or premature newborns, she said.

The highlight of a two-day series ICON2018 from December 1 was the association with US-based Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine, she said.

Mrudubhashini, named as SMFM ambassador in the region, said that without proper awareness half a million women died worldwide during childbirth annually and half of them are from India.

To provide access to speedy treatment for mother and children, WCM would soon set up a special ICU for pregnant women and also an ambulance for children, Motherhood Hospitals CEO Vijayarathna Venkataraman said.
