AIADMK councillor attempts self immolation

An AIADMK councillor of Tirupur City Corporation attempted to immolate himself on Thursday, claiming that his Ward was totally neglected, because no development works were taking place.
The 45-year old Kannappan, representing 45th Ward, doused himself with kerosene at the entrance of District Collectorate, and attempted to light a match stick.
However,some party men and police overpowered him and removed him from the premises, according to the Police.
Collector Govindaraj was reviewing developmental works being taken up in various Wards, along with Department officials, when the incident occured.
