Students of the Avinashilingam University continued to protest, along with faculty, for the third consecutive day. The protestors are on a hunger strike to show their dissent against the management, which they allege is taking efforts to convert the institution into a self-financing one.

The strike is also to oppose the “illegal appointment of T.S.K. Meenakshisundaram as the Chancellor of the University against University Grants Commission norms”.

As many as 80 students and teachers are observing a fast in front of the University gate. More than 10 professors are on a sit-in-strike inside the campus. They have demanded that the Chancellor should hold talks with teachers without delay. They have also urged the management to withdraw the indefinite holiday declared by the management.

The protestors have sought the intervention of the District Collector Archana Patnaik in resolving the issue.
