CITU, today, urged the District Administration and Labour Department to ensure that the industries in the region, be it MSME or large ones, paid bonus to its workers before Diwali, which falls on November 10.

With only three days remaining for the festival, there are many industries in the district, who have not reached any bonus agreement so far, even as talks are in the initial stage in some other organisations.

Moreover, the workers were upset over the announcement by many managements that were paying lower percentage of bonus, compared to last year. Contract labourers in jewellery and textile shops were not paid bonus, which has resulted in unrest among the workers, a CITU release said today.

Thousands of workers in textile mills and plantations in Valparai too had not received bonus till now.

Considering the situation, the District Administration and Labour Department should monitor the disbursement of bonus to the workers well ahead of Diwali, the release added.
