Pollachi resort raided, 150 students held for drug abuse

Coimbatore : Police busted a major drug and narcotic substance racket at a resort near Pollachi in the district and arrested over 150 students in intoxicated condition in the early hours of Saturday.

Based on a complaint from the public in Sethumadai that a large number of students had camped at a private resort and were consuming narcotic drugs through Friday night, police raided the place.

Police team from Anamalai managed to catch students some under the influence of drugs like ganja, cocaine, injections, sedatives and liquor

They arrested 159 students, majority of them hailing from neighbouring Kerala and studying in private colleges in and around Coimbatore, police said.

Police also arrested six staff of the Agri Nest resort owned by Ganeshan, for whom a search is on, they said adding that large number of drugs and narcotic substances and vehicles were seized from there.

The resort reportedly charged Rs.1,200 per head for the night, they said.

Meanwhile, the District Collector, K Rajamani issued orders to seal the resort.
