Upper caste people beat up dalits during temple festival in Velanthavalam, Coimbatore.

The clash happened when the lower caste people were denied entry into the Mariamman temple in Kumittipathy village. This resulted in verbal altercations and turned violent. The people also squatted on the road demanding action against the upper caste people who had attacked them. Those injured were admitted to hospital.
