Man held for making hoax bomb threat to Tiruppur Railway Station

A hoax call made to the state helpline number 108, alleging of a bomb threat to the Tiruppur Railway Station turned out to be a hoax.

The ambulance driver from Chennai who received the call on late Wednesday evening immediately alerted the officials, who began search operations which ended around 1 am on Thursday.

About 50 officials including those from the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police, were involved in the search, which yielded no traces of bomb(s).

One person, who has not yet been named by the officials in charge of the investigation, has been held on charges of making the hoax call. It is learnt that the man was staying in a lodge in the city and made the call in an inebriated condition. His identity and other details are still being ascertained by the police.
