The city police would try to close all compoundable cases before the Lok Adalat on December 12 to focus on important cases.

According to Commissioner of Police A. Amalraj, there are 1,817 compoundable cases still pending in the city of the total 14,906 cases.

“There are 2,585 cases in which charge sheets have been filed, yet the court has not taken them up for trial, and 7,204 cases are under trial. Our focus is on the 3,300 cases that are under investigation,” he said.

Commenting that petty cases were diverting the focus from important cases, Amalraj also said that police officials would talk to the parties involved in the cases and try to bring about a compromise.

“We have also planned to involve the advocates to mediate between the parties to close all the compoundable cases that make up 20 percent of the total,” he said.

He further stated that the Department would ensure that charge sheet was filed for all the important cases.
