PSG College of Nursing hosts a National Conference to promote Forensic Nursing

In India, forensic nursing is a new specialty. Recently forensic nursing has been added to graduate nursing curriculum by Indian Nursing Council. In addition to gathering evidence and supporting legal proceedings, forensic nurses are essential in providing medical care to victims of trauma, abuse, and violence. On March 24, 2025, from 7.30 am to 6.15 pm, PSG College of Nursing hosted a National conference with the theme “Forensic Nursing: An Emerging Competency for contemporary practice”.
Chief Guest Dr.RakeshGorea, and dignitaries on stage lit the kuthuvilakku. Dr.Jayadeepa R, Principal, PSG CON gave welcome address and unveiled the conference theme.

Dr.Jagadheeshwararaj J, Vice Principal, PSGIMSR facilitated the Gathering. Chief guest, Dr.Rakesh Gorea, Director & Registrar, Medico Legal Institute, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, Punjab, and the guest of honour, Dr. Rajesh Babu, professor and dean, School of medico legal studies, Head International Center for Humanitarian Forensics, NFSU Gandhinagar,Gujarat addressed the gathering. The conference was attended by students, registered nurses, staff nurses, nursing faculty, and nurse educators. The conference had 775 attendees. A Poster presentation took place with participation of 43 delegates. In Total there were 17 posters displayed.The aim of the conference was to impart knowledge regarding scope challenges and legal issues of forensic nursing.

“Nature of Forensic Science: ForensicNursing elaborate with clinical scenario” was presented by Dr. Rajesh Babu, “Forensic nursing: scope and challenges in 21st century social and health care” by Dr.RakeshGorea, and “Forensic team members and the role of forensic nurse” by Dr.Jagadeeshwararaj J. Dr.Kirpa Angeline, nursing superintendent and professor at Kasturba Gandhi Nursing College and Mahatma Gandhi Medical College & Research Institute in Puducherry, discussed “Comprehensive forensic nursing care of victim, family, and perpetrator.” Principal Dr.Jeyadeepa R. of PSG CON spoke about “Forensic Nursing: chain of custody, testimony, legal and ethical issues.”Dr. C. Manoharan, a police surgeon, professor, and head of the forensic medicine department at Coimbatore Medical College, gave a talk titled “Evidence Tracing: Collection and Preservation”. Dr. G. Balamurugan, Assistant professor of nursing at the National Apex Coordinating Center for Tele MANAS, NIMHANS, Bangalore, gave a talk on “The vital role of forensic psychiatric nurses in modern forensic science & community.” Mr. A. Raman, Additional Public Prosecutor, Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Coimbatore,spoke about the “Indian judicial system and legal procedures related to forensic nursing.”
