Last year about 200 women from India were chosen from various sectors for their contributions to the society. All the chosen women were put through a voting process and the women who received the maximum number of votes were declared women achievers of the nation. To the sheer joy of Coimbatore city two women made it to the 100 women achievers.

One of them is Coimbatore based Latha Sundaram. In recognition for her contributions to ‘access to justice and protection of women and their rights’, Coimbatore based Latha Sundaram received an award at a function that will be hosted by Pranab Mukherjee, The President of India today.

The President hosted an official lunch to honour the women. The award ceremony was hosted at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The award is for her contribution to ‘Access to justice and protection of women and their rights’ in the #100 women contest to recognise women who are pride of the nation. This award recognises her selfless service to society through the charitable trust, Aram foundation charitable trust based at Coimbatore. She is the only Railway employee to have won this prestigious award.

Before she left Coimbatore to receive this award, Latha said “I cannot believe that I have been chosen to receive this award. This award is a big motivation for my team and me to do better. I have booked my tickets and I will be leaving to Delhi soon”.

Another woman also from Coimbatore who received the award from President Pranab Mukherjee today is Shima Sendhil, Director, Rathinam Educational Institutions. n Currently, she serves as Correspondent of Rathinam International Public School (RIPS). Shima who initially used to lend a helping hand to her husband in managing the day-to-day activities of this school now takes care of the school and its students. She takes pride in sharing that she learns a lot from the children at RIPS.

About 100 women from India have received the Women Achiever award from Union Ministry of Women and Child Development today.
