Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, jointly with the Indian Association for Savings and Credit (IASC), Coimbatore, imparted training to women micro entrepreneurs on using smart phones with a view to enhance their business contacts for development.

V. Balasubramanian, Director, Avinashilingan Jan Shikshan Sansthan (AJSS), was instrumental in taking the lead in bringing together the two big organisations in making women micro entrepreneurs to excel in their business.

AJSS has been doing yeomen service in empowering women by imparting training in different domains thereby helping in the development of their family and community as well.

A Latha, Joint Director of Employment and Training, Government of Tamil Nadu, sought the women micro entrepreneurs to utilise the golden opportunity in enhancing their standard of living.

IASC, Coimbatore, came forward to give away smart phones free of cost, besides imparting training on how to use the phones to develop their small business.

“Definitely small business women can make it big in the long run provided they show more interest in their chosen domain. No matter how small the business is, there is lot of scope for micro entrepreneurs to reach dizzy heights,” she remarked.

Vigneshwara Ilavarasan of Department of Management Studies, IIT, Delhi, said that the women micro entrepreneurs evinced keen interest to know about using smart phones.

IASC Director J.V. Premnath said that 240 women micro entrepreneurs have been selected for the training.

It may be noted that of the 240 beneficiaries, 120 are from Avinashilingam Jan Shikshan Sansthan (AJSS). IASC programme officer K. Srividhya said that the training is part of a two-year Random Control Test Study sponsored by Canada-based International Development Research Centre which aims at unravelling the factors that enable the impact of micro loans, business training and mobile phones on the growth of women micro entrepreneurs.
