Puthiya Tamizhakam today urged Tamil Nadu Government to take punitive action against those who indulged in violence and arson against the people of Adi Dravidar community in Shesasamudram in Villupuram District.

“After the violence, where 40 houses were torched and temple car burnt, a majority of families had left the village fearing for their lives. Police were also attacked with bombs, Puthiya Tamizhakam President and MLA, Dr. K. Krishnasamy told reporters here.

“The Government should take punitive action against a section of Vanniyars, who were behind the violence and cases should be registered under Protection of Civil Rights and SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, since the incident was a gross violation of human rights,” Dr. Krishnasamy said.

He also wanted the Government to immediately bring to book the killers of Durai Eswaran, who was brutally murdered in Suthamalli in Tirunelveli district, a week ago.

Stating that caste violence had raised its head of late in Tamil Nadu, he said thatthere had been 120 incidents of attacks on Dalits and down trodden in the last one year.

Krishnasamy also gave a 48-hour ultimatum to the producers of film Bahubali, which contained objectionable comments against a particularly community. Despite the Supreme Court directing to delete such remarks, the movie continued playing the dialogue. His party would resort to a massive protest against the film, if the remarks were not removed within 48 hours, he said.

He also wanted both the Centre and State Governments to find an amicable solution to the wage issues of nearly 33,000 NLC workers. “Why Tamil Nadu Government, which was quick to purchase the five per cent share to protect NLC workers, not showing interest in solving the issue ?” Krishnasamy wanted to know.
