About 20,000 lorries remained off the roads in Coimbatore district today, to express solidarity with the farmers in Tamil Nadu who have called for a day-long bandh in the state, demanding that the government exert pressure on Karnataka to release the Cauvery water.

The lorries, carrying vegetables, construction materials, and other goods, did not ply, as part of the protest, sources in Coimbatore Lorry Owners Association said.

The strike and the non-movement of goods have resulted in losses to the tune of Rs.150 crores, the sources claimed.
