The smartest city in India is all set to get smarter, courtesy Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan, Commissioner, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). In order to promote non-motorised transport the CCMC is all set to ban motorised vehicles on the Ukkadam Tank Bund Road everyday between 5 am and 8 am, starting September 11.

According to the initiative, the public is free to cycle or walk or skate on the road, and enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.

“About 30-kilometers of non-motorised transport routes are being planned in Coimbatore as a part of the Smart City project. This Sunday, September 11, the public and active bicycle groups are invited to interact with Commissioner Dr. Karthikeyan, between 7 am and 10 am, on the Ukkadam Tank Bund Road,” R. Raveendran, Secretary, Residents Awareness association of Coimbatore, said.
