DMK treasurer M.K. Stalin today called on the family members of a farmer who recently died of heart attack and handed over them Rs. one lakh solatium.

Rajesh Kannan, a farmer of Sebastiar Koil Street in East Thiruppoonthuruthi village, had cultivated paddy crops in 2.5 acres that he had taken on lease. As the crops wilted for want of water, he was greatly distressed. To make a living, he worked as labourer in a field owned by Sathasivam, another farmer, of the same area.

Rajesh Kannan suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed while working in the field on November 5. He is survived by his wife Savithri, son Rajkiran and daughters Ramani and Yazhini.

The DMK leader, who had been camping in Thanjavur for the last two days to campaign for the party candidate Dr. Anjugam Boopathy, went to Rajesh Kannan’s house and consoled the family members.

He also unveiled Rajesh Kannan’s portrait and paid respects.

Later, Stalin, on behalf of his party, distributed Rs. 1 lakh solatium to the family. Former Minister and party’s Tiruchi district secretary K.N. Nehru was also present.
