The Police on Monday foiled a self immolation bid as a man attempted to set himself ablaze dejected that he did not get any response regarding his application seeking free land for the last six months.

During the grievance day meeting, 45 year old Saravanakumar who was a resident of Kalangal near Sulur said that he had applied for a land near Sulur Tahsildar office nearly six months ago, but there has been no response on it whatsoever.

As there was no response, he had also submitted a petition to the District Collector, Archana Patnaik, some three months ago. However, the application met with the same fate and upset over this, Saravanakumar
came to the district collectorate this morning and doused himself with the kerosene he was carrying.

Before he could proceed further, alert police personnel on duty there, over powered him and took him to the nearest police station for interrogation.
