Around 30 shortlisted participants from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana will compete at the south India finals of FameLab International, an international science festival in Thiruvananthapuram on November 30.

“The regional winners will compete at the India finals later, to be held at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Pune in January 2017,” a FameLab release said.

The south India finals will have representations from IIT-Madras; University of Kerala; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli; National Centre for Biological Sciences, Bangalore; and Manipal University, Karnataka.

The shortlisted 30 will also participate in an exclusive programme, where they will receive training in science communication from professor Iain Stewart from UK’s Plymouth University before the south India Finals. This training would provide a life skill, helping Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workers reach new audiences with science.

The release further added that India winners will represent the country at the FameLab International Grand Finale at the Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK in June 2017.

The event is organised by the British Council.
