One of the prime focuses of the industries sector in India is the automotive industry, on which 60 per cent of foundries depend upon in the country, said Shekar Viswanathan, vice chairman & whole-time director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd here.

Inaugurating the 8th edition of the National Foundry Conclave 2016, themed Structure for Excellence, in Coimbatore today, he added that the automotive industry has seen rapid progress over the years.

However, he claimed that since regulations were being revised, the automotive industry and the dependent industry, including the foundry industry, have to gear themselves to excel in the global market.

He pointed out that with the announcement of incentivising electric automobile vehicle manufacturers in the country, the Government of India has sent a strong message to industry stakeholders on the country’s focus towards a sustainable future.

Calling for awareness among stakeholders, Shekar opined that they should be educated about pollution level assessment and Euro ratings. In order to reduce pollution, Shekar opined that the government had to bring down policies for importing fuel that is compliant to Euro six ratings, which are to be implemented in the country by 2020.

The event was jointly organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry Coimbatore, in association with the Institute of Indian Foundrymen, Coimbatore Chapter.
