Two friends, Abhijit Bose and Kishore Jain have come together to teach people the science of yoga. Abhijit, who took voluntary retirement from the Indian Air Force, joined hands with Kishore Jain, who has been practising and preaching yoga for the last 30 years. Both are disciples of Baba Ramdev and they have met their guru in person.

Last month they started Chintan Yoga Studio on the terrace of Corporate Castle building that is located in R. S. Puram. Students practise yoga under the sunlight during morning hours and in the evening. The duo claims that they are the pioneers to have set up such a yoga studio in Coimbatore.

The fee they charge their students goes towards paying lease and some of it is used towards maintaining the place. They aim to make yoga available to the masses. For a month they charge Rs. 1,500 as fees. Students who sign up for yoga classes are also eligible to participate in stretch exercise classes at no additional costs. “It has been just over a month since we started this initiative and it has received very good response.” says Kishore.

At the yoga classes students are taught basic and advance yoga. Depending on their health condition, Abhijit also advices students on what kind of diet they need to follow and how much water they need to consume. “Through our yoga studio we are planning to make yoga available to all. Students who have medical conditions are given personalised attention.” Abhijit says.

One of their students Suresh Mulchandani, 61 years of age, suffers from sciatica nerves problem. About a month ago, Suresh used to experience sciatica pain that would run along the sciatic nerve, extending from his lower back and down the back of each leg. The manager of Ebco National Display Centre, he recalls that he was not able to sit cross legged on the ground about a month ago. “These yoga and stretch exercises have helped in reducing the pain and today 80 per cent of my problem is solved. I have gained a lot of confidence after I started attending these yoga classes.” Suresh says. He continues to take medicines as prescribed by his specialist.

Their students include college and school goers, home makers, working men and women and the retired. The classes are staggered to accommodate people from different walks of life. Their classes are scheduled between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. and their evening batch is on from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
