Coin and stamp exhibition from September 4

The All India Coimbatore 100th Coin and Stamp Exhibition 2015 will be held from September 4 onwards, for three days, at the Kamalam Duraisamy Hall behind Gandhipuram bus stand. This year’s exhibition will be held in memory of the former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, and dedicated to the teachers, as part of the Teachers’ Day celebrations.

C. Palanisamy, Secretary of Coimbatore Coins and Stamps Exhibition Federation, said that the exhibition will be inaugurated by K. Soudarapandian, District Forest Officer, on September 4, and will be open up to September 6. Members of the public can view the exhibits from 9.30 AM to 8.00 PM.

He added that stamps, currency notes, and coins, some as old as 2500 years, will be displayed at the exhibition. Also on display will be coins of the Cheran, Chola, and Pandiya era, and those issued by the British, Dutch, and Portuguese rulers.Some special collections like gold, silver, and bronze coins from the Tipu Sulthan, Mughal, and British era and those belonging to Adolf Hitler will be exhibited.

Prizes will be awarded to the participants for various stamp collections on September 6, the last day of the exhibition. The organizers are expecting large participation from students and teachers.
