Coimbatore SIDCO Industrial Estate Welfare Association (COSIEMA) has sought immediate widening of roads from Sundarapuram to Pollachi as there has been several accidents and consequent fatalities on the road.

In a statement COSIEMA president, Loganathan welcomed the move by the State Highways, of preparing a detailed estimate to convert the NH 209 into four lane road from Karpagam Collage to Aachi Patti near Pollachi. “ Though the move to widen the road was a welcome step, we regret that our request and representations on the widening of the roads between Sundarapuram
and Karpagam College junction has not been considered,”he said.

This stretch has been identified as accident zone by Traffic Police wing and the efforts taken by the Police personnel to erect temporary road dividers in the accident prone areas to minimise accidents is however appreciated.

But despite this, frequent accidents occur particularly during nights, as the temporary barriers are poorly visible and unfamiliar riders meet with accidents hitting upon these barriers, he pointed out. Hence the association has urged for immediate action to widen roads at this stretch to avoid accidents on this road.
