Railway station wall gets educative murals

The wall of the Coimbatore Railway Station bordering the side of Goods Shed Road once again served its purpose for depicting educative murals in striking colours drawn by volunteers here on Saturday.

The mural art painting drive, jointly initiated by the Salem Division of Southern Railways and Aram Foundation Charitable Trust, witnessed around 225 volunteers painting awareness related murals on half of the 1-km wall.

Around 25 of the planned 46 murals were outlined on Saturday and the volunteers decided to complete the work in a month, working on weekends.

“Themes including organic farming, heritage Nilgiris train, go green, preservation of nature and wildlife, abolition of child labour, women empowerment, right to education and happy children have been depicted on the wall. Some of the heritage sights in the country have also been added,” said Latha Sundaram, Managing Trustee of Aram Foundation.

Volunteers from various educational institutions including Ramakrishna Polytechnic College, Ramakrishna Nursing College, Kovai Kalaimagal College of Arts and Science NGP Arts and Science College and Kumaraguru College of Technology; staff from VWR and members of NGOs participated in the drive.
