Protests against the recently passed order on prevention of cruelty against animals are growing. Representatives of the Coimbatore chapter of Tamil Nadu Farmers Association met the District Collector today and conveyed their opposition and concerns.

Farmers felt that the new rule, termed as slaughter bill, is against the interest of farmers and affects their livelihood, said association leader S Palanisami.

The Governement has gone ahead without considering the present conditions of farmers, especially in the backdrop of the recent drought.

“The prices of fodder and cattle feed have gone up. The government should have a separate law to protect livestock and reverse the current Act,” he said. The recent rules regulating shandy markets should be removed, he added.
