Two major industry and trade bodies have urged the Tamil Nadu Government to immediately implement Organic Agriculture Policy like other States.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at a seminar ‘Uzhave Thalai’ here two days ago organised by local chapter of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Coimbatore District Small Industries Association (CODISSIA).

In another resolution it decided to pursue State and Central Governments in forming new marketing methods and also for investment in new agro technology, a release from Chamber President Vanitha Mohan said today.

The Tamil Nadu Government should not permit the use of fertile agriculture land for any other purpose and should initiate action on war footing for solving the debts of farmers by taking it up with banks to extend the period of repayment and also renegotiate the interest rates, another resolution said.

About 1,300 persons including non-farmers and farmers, college students and executives from leading corporates participated in the seminar. The Chamber will represent the resolutions to the authorities concerned, to achieve fruitful results, she said.
