Bengaluru: The Special NIA Court in Bengaluru on Monday sentenced three accused to seven years imprisonment in connection with the 2010 Chinnaswamy Stadium blast. The accused – Gowhar Azeez Khomani, Kamaal Hasan and Mohammed Kafeel Akhtar – were also fined Rs 10 lakh.

The accused had orally agreed to confess their role in the blast after the court had rejected their plea bargaining petition.

Under Section 265 of the CrPC, they had petitioned seeking lowering the quantum of punishment. But it was turned down by the court. It may be recalled here that the blast during the IPL match in July 2010 had left 15 people, including police personnel, injured. They along with Yaseen and Riyaz Bhatkal were charged with criminal conspiracy.

While Gowhar and Akhtar hailed from Darbanga in Bihar, Hassan is a native of Madhubani in Bihar.
