Bengaluru: If all goes planned, women constables in Karnataka will sport pants instead of saree as their uniform. The government is planning to change their uniform following complaints that wearing saree during work is uncomfortable, reports Bangalore Mirror quoting Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar.

It is still being discussed at DGP level. In fact, uniforms of women constables in neighbouring states have undergone a change.

In Kerala, women constables have now shifted from saree to light khaki shirts and pants.

They wear a metal belt marked with the KP badge. Even the new State Telangana too has opted for a different uniforms for its women police constables. The state is considering options like pant-shirt with waistcoat and salwar kameez with a waistcoat.

Police constables in Tamil Nadu too sport pant and shirt as their uniform. At least, now, the Karnataka government has now decided to change their uniform.
