607 kilos of banned plastic items seized

In their drive against banned plastic products below 50 micron, Corporation officials seized 607 kg of plastic items from about 570 shops in five zones of the city.
The seizure was made during the raids in shops from June 10 to this afternoon. They imposed a fine of Rs.1.23 lakh on the shopkeepers for violating the rule, which came into effect from May 1, an official release said.
The officials have seized a little over 3,000 kg of banned plastic products such as cups and carry bags form May 5 till date, it said.
