The Karnataka Association, Coimbatore, will organise a Purandaradasar music competition for persons in the age group of 8 to 25 years. This is the eighth year this contest is being organized. The first round will be held on October 31 and November 1, while the second round will be held on January 2 and 3, 2016.

“Those born after 1990 are eligible to participate in this contest. The first round gives them an opportunity to display their singing talents. Only selected contestants will be allowed to participate in the second round. The second and the final round contestants will sing Saint Purandaradasar songs,” C.R. Suryanarayan, Secretary, The Karnataka Association, Coimbatore, said.

In the first round, contestants can sing a classical song originally sung by any composer. The second round is dedicated to Saint Purandaradasar and those selected to participate in the second round would be trained and mentored by specialists from Karnataka.

The best three winners in each group would be awarded a cash prize. All participants would receive a CD of Saint Purandaradasar songs and participation certificate.
