The students of the Coimbatore Government Arts College, on Tuesday, conducted a signature campaign to request the state government to provide basic facilities for their institution.

One of the students who participated in the protest said that they have, for a long time, been requesting for cleaner toilets and surroundings in the campus.

“We need dustbins for every 100 metres so that the campus is cleaner. The drinking water facilities too should be revisited, and certain improvements must be made. Additional sanitary workers should also be posted in the college,” he said.

He further added that the teaching staff vacancies in the college needed to be filled. “There are some teachers who are working on temporary basis. They should be made permanent,” the student said.

Another student complained that the college administration was collecting Rs.8 for napkins that are provided by the government for free, adding that the collection of Rs. 10 for Government bus pass should be stopped too.

Complaining of the lack of adequate toilets in the men’s hostel of the college, the students claimed that more toilets should be built and they must be maintained properly.

Requesting that free Wi-Fi internet be provided in the campus, the students also requested that student council elections should be conducted as per the Supreme Court order.
