Bid to smuggle Letamine to Singapore: Two get 5-years RI

COIMBATORE: A court here on Saturday sentenced two persons, including a CISF constable, to undergo five year imprisonment on charges of attempting to smuggle narcotic substance worth Rs.1.5 crore to Singapore some seven year ago.

The prosecution case was that the customs officials at the airport inspected the belongings of passengers of Singapore Airlines on April 4, 2010 and found Ketamine Hdro Chloride in a passenger’s suitcase.

After inquiry, the passenger, Selvamani (55) of Chennai and his relative R makrishnan (50), a CISF Head Constable, were arrested.

The case was going on in the Chief Judicial Magistrate court and magistrate K R Madurasekharan sentenced the duo to undergo five years imprisonment and directed to pay Rs. 25,000 fine, failing which another one year imprisonment.
