Good coverage and affordability was making more customers switch over to BSNL under mobile number portability scheme, according to a top BSNL official.

As of now BSNL had 8 lakh pre-paid and 45,000 post-paid customers, besides 1.42 lakh landline customers, Coimbatore Telecom Circle Principal General Manager V Sundar told mediapersons here today.

He pointed out that as against a port-out of 3,014 from BSNL, the port-in was 6,250 in four months from April. He attributed this to the better coverage and affordability BSNL had compared other service providers.

BSNL was investing Rs 300 crore to add 1,127 2G sites, 1,428 3G sites and 566 4G sites across Tamil Nadu circle, which was expected to commence by next March, he added. A total 631 2G sites and 448 3G ones were presently there in the Coimbatore circle. Plans were afoot to add more sites in Valparai area, which was generating the highest revenue, Sundar said.

Two new landline annual plans LL-1200 and LL-1500 were being introduced from September 1 for 90 days on promotional basis. The annual charges to be paid in advance were Rs 1,200 and Rs 1,500 respectively, he added.
