V. Arun, a life-member of Coimbatore Rifle Club recently participated in the 28th G.V. Mavalankar Big Bore Shooting Competitions (pre-Nationals) at Mhow, Indore. In the Men’s NR individual category, he secured the second place with a score of 286/300. He lost the gold by 3 points to Arshdeep Singh from Haryana.

Arun joined the club in 1996. He took up air rifle initially and later moved on to pistol categories. He’s been a National-level shooter for over 10 years in the pistol category. He is also an ISSF Certified Pistol coach.

This is his first competition in the ‘big bore’ category. The big bore event is conducted in the 300m target range. The club didn’t have a big bore category range. Arun practised in the 50m range using the club’s .22 rifle.

Mr Satgurdas, Mr K.S. Senthilkumar and other senior members of the club guided him in the prone position shooting techniques after which he gained confidence and decided to participate in the competition. During the competition he used 6mm Gruiig Rifle (Switzerland).

The weather wasn’t favourable during the competition but somehow as the winds settled down, Arun gave his best shot. Arun thanked all his club members for their support and guidance which helped him secure silver medal.
