Deemed-to-be-varsity status for Karunya extended for 5 years

Coimbatore : The Human Resource Development Ministry has extended the Deemed-to-be-University status to Karunya Institute of Technology And Sciences (KITS) here for another five years.

The extension was based on the recommendations by the Joint University

Grants Commission (UGC) and AICTE expert committee which visited KITS during November 9 to 11 last year to review the progress of the institution.

The committee unanimously recommended extension for five years after considering various features, including the campus, infrastructure, industry tieups and placements, cutting edge research and funding from Government agencies, a varsity statement said today.

Accepting the recommendations, the MHRD granted approval for extension of Deemed-to-be-university status to KITS in its letter yesterday, KITS Registrar Dr R Elijah Blessing said in the statement.
